Tom Robinson
Tom Robinson has 25 years of experience in
analyzing processes, coaching and developing managers, facilitating
high-performing teams, and teaching methods for improving quality
and customer service. He began working as an adjunct staff member of
Catalyst in 1985.
In the past decade, much of Tom’s consulting has emphasized lean
methodologies, rapid process improvement, and group facilitation. In
particular, he has focused on mapping and improving processes in
non-industrial settings such as medical centers and clinics,
research laboratories, and tribal service organizations.
Tom has consulted to a wide range of organizations including
Boeing, BP Exploration Alaska, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Fred
Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Getty Images, Harborview Medical
Center, HIV Vaccine Trials Network, Lummi Indian Nation, Philips
Oral Healthcare, Qualis Health, Puget Sound Neighborhood Health
Centers, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Starbucks Coffee, Texas Tech
Student Health Center, T-Mobile, University of Washington Department
of Surgery, Virginia Mason Medical Center, and Watermark Credit
Union. Tom has been invited to deliver workshops on lean strategies
and methods to the American Health Quality Association, the American
Society for Training and Development, Organization Development
Network, and the Washington State Health Information Association.
In 2004 Tom’s Rapid Process Improvement consulting team received
BP Exploration’s regional Helios Award for their work in simplifying
workflow on the North Slope and in Anchorage.
During his career, Tom has also held positions as chief
administrative officer of a worldwide investment bank, human
resources development manager for a pharmaceuticals company,
instructor and course director for Outward Bound, and core faculty
for Seattle University’s Master’s program in Organization Systems
Renewal.
Tom received his Ph.D. in Education and Ed.S. in Evaluation from
Stanford University. His B.A. in Outdoor Education is from Prescott
College.
Tom serves as vice-chair of the Salish Youth Academy, and has
served as a trustee of Prescott College and as an elected
councilmember of Beaux Arts, Washington.
